Karolina Muchova [7] and Naomi Osaka [12] are set to collide in a fourth-round blockbuster at the China Open. Muchova just scraped by with a three-set victory over Liudmila Samsonova, avoiding a quick exit. The seventh seed has been playing with confidence all season, especially after her Wimbledon final run. Now, she’s eyeing a strong finish and a shot at the WTA Finals.
Osaka, meanwhile, got a boost from a straight-sets win over Sara Bejlek. The world number 17 is craving consistency, and a big win here against Muchova could be just what she needs. Their head-to-head is tight, with Muchova leading 4-3, so expect a fierce battle. Muchova will mix up spins and paces to force errors, while Osaka will rely on her aggressive serve and forehand. It’s going to be a nail-biter, but I’m predicting Osaka in three sets.
In other action, Linda Noskova [5] faces Ekaterina Alexandrova [19]. Noskova’s been on fire since Wimbledon, dropping no sets in Beijing so far. Alexandrova, though, had a nice win over Diana Shnaider last round. Noskova’s serve and net game should give her the edge, and I see her taking it in straight sets.
Also on tap, Mirra Andreeva [4] takes on Daria Snigur in their first-ever meeting. Andreeva, the French Open champion, is looking to build on her success, while Snigur’s been causing upsets, including beating Jasmine Paolini. Andreeva’s variety and backhand should wear down Snigur, but it might go three sets. I’m going with Andreeva to win.
All matches are on hard courts in Beijing, with prize money at $105,720. Catch the action on Sky Sports or Now TV if you’re in the UK.
