South Carolina’s backup quarterback Cutter Woods has been taking a larger share of the first-team snaps this week, according to sources. The move indicates that the coaching staff is preparing to possibly replace starter LaNorris Sellers if his performance does not improve. Sellers remains the starter, but the increased reps show the team is ready to turn to Woods. Coach Shane Beamer emphasized competition, and the message to Sellers is clear: he needs to play better. Earlier in the week, Woods took about a quarter of the first-team reps, though later those reps dropped as Sellers kept his spot. The Gamecocks are 2-2 overall and 0-2 in the SEC heading into Saturday’s home game against Kentucky. Sellers has completed 62.1% of his passes, the second-worst mark in the conference, with six touchdowns and four interceptions. He has been strong on the ground, averaging 6.8 yards per carry, but his passing game has struggled under offensive coordinator Kendal Briles. Woods, a second-year player, has appeared in six games off the bench, completing 17 of 25 passes for 161 yards with one touchdown and one interception.
