Welcome to Soulite: Lee Soo-man’s A2O Groups Launch with 4D VR Magic
After a three-year hiatus from the Korean entertainment world, Lee Soo-man, the visionary behind SM Entertainment, has returned with a bang. He didn’t just launch a single group; he introduced a boy band and a girl group simultaneously, along with a technological breakthrough that could change how we experience K-pop. At the Kintex in Goyang, the 15-member A2O Soul and nine-member A2O Lite took the stage for their debut showcase, titled ‘Welcome to Soulite From A2O Soul A2O Lite.’ The event was unlike any other, focusing more on innovation than traditional fan interactions. The artists performed without speaking, letting their music and the new tech speak for themselves. The star of the show was 4DGS, or four-dimensional Gaussian splatting, a collaboration with Samsung that creates immersive virtual reality content. This allows viewers to step into a performance, moving around in a 360-degree space as if they were part of the action. Lee described it as the ultimate evolution of recording, building on his earlier Matrix Camera System. A2O Soul, with its diverse members from Korea, Japan, China, Thailand, and the US, delivered ‘Superstar,’ a synth-pop track, while A2O Lite performed ‘Neon,’ a high-energy dance-pop song. Both groups are part of the ACE universe, a fictional narrative set on the planet Soulite. Lee also introduced Blooming Talk, a new fan platform with interactive avatars, stressing that music remains at the heart of K-pop. He urged audiences to focus on the feeling of the music first, before questioning what’s different.
