Leylah Annie Fernandez Clinches Singapore Title with Help from Williams Sisters’ Coach

Leylah Annie Fernandez just snagged her first win of the season at the Singapore Open, and it feels like a real turning point. After hitting a rough patch earlier this year with three straight first-round exits in Grand Slams, she dropped to her lowest ranking in a year. But this victory, which included a tough match against French Open champ Mirra Andreeva, boosted her back up to 26th in the world. She capped it off by beating Talia Gibson in the final. Fernandez said it gives her a big confidence boost, but she’s already thinking about starting fresh the next day. The big change? She brought on Eric Hechtman, who used to coach Serena and Venus Williams, as her second coach alongside her dad. He’s been helping her find new energy for the season’s end, even if he wasn’t there in Singapore.
