College football Week 8: Live updates, schedule, scores, rankings
We’re at the break of the afternoon slate, and there is plenty of drama on the scoreboard. Let’s break down where the big games stand at the half:
No. 11 Tennessee is holding a slim 21-17 lead over South Carolina. For a minute there, it was all LaNorris Sellers. The Gamecocks QB has been a beast, racking up 193 total yards and two touchdowns. But a second-quarter interception and some major ball-security issues have slowed South Carolina down. To make matters worse, defensive back Vicari Swain got ejected for targeting with less than two minutes to go, leaving a huge hole in their defense.
Down in Orlando, No. 2 BYU is in a tight battle with UCF. With just four seconds left on the clock, Keyone Jenkins hooked up with Landen Chambers on a 6-yard touchdown pass to put the Knights ahead 17-14. BYU’s Bear Bachmeier has thrown for 161 yards and two scores, but he is still looking for that game-winning drive.
Over in College Station, No. 13 Alabama is locked in a tie with Texas A&M, 17-17. The Tide miss Ryan Coleman-Williams, but Keelon Russell has spread the ball around, hitting five different receivers, including Daniel Hill for a touchdown. Rico Scott has pulled in 109 receiving yards. The Aggie defense has done a great job containing the Alabama run game, limiting them to just 25 yards on the ground. On the other side, TAMU’s Marcel Reed had a rough first quarter with two interceptions, including a pick-six on their very first drive.
Meanwhile, No. 9 UCLA holds a narrow 14-7 lead over Michigan State. The Bruins have put up 105 rushing yards compared to the Spartans’ 32, keeping their undefeated streak alive as one of only four teams left standing in the FBS.
