Amazon is finally sending out money from its massive $2.5 billion settlement with the Federal Trade Commission. The deal was struck over accusations that Amazon tricked people into signing up for Prime subscriptions and made it unnecessarily difficult to cancel them. The FTC just announced they’re speeding up and expanding the refund process, so more folks can get their money back faster. As of now, Amazon has already paid out over $845 million to affected customers. A recent court approval means that the payment limits are being raised, and more people will qualify for refunds. You don’t have to file any claims or fill out forms—the payments will come automatically to your Venmo, PayPal account, or by mail. Starting October 1, 2026, customers who used between 11 and 20 Prime benefits in a year will start seeing payments. If the total payouts don’t hit the required amount by February 2027, Amazon will send out even more automatic payments, potentially bringing some refunds up to $200 total. This is a chance for long-overdue compensation for those who were misled by Amazon’s practices.
