Why Jayden Daniels wears a Japanese flag on his helmet during Commanders games
Jayden Daniels, the Commanders’ quarterback, has become known for more than his play—he also sports a Japanese flag on his helmet. The flag, called the Hinomaru, traces back to his family history: his great‑grandmother was born in Japan. After initially wearing only the U.S. flag, Daniels added the Japanese emblem before the 2025 season opener against the Giants. He continues to wear it as a tribute to his ancestor and a way to celebrate his heritage.
