Homecoming Showdown: No. 25 Tigers Ready to Battle No. 8 Florida in Columbia

Get ready for a massive showdown in Columbia! The birthplace of homecoming is about to host a heavyweight fight as the No. 25 Mizzou Tigers get set to welcome the red-hot No. 8 Florida Gators for the 115th annual homecoming game. After picking up their first loss of the season in Starkville, the Tigers are hungry to get back in the win column on their home turf, while Florida rolls in with a perfect 4-0 record and some serious offensive fire.

On the sidelines, Eli Drinkwitz is looking to keep his incredible streak alive. He is already fourth on Mizzou’s all-time wins list and has been nothing short of a wizard on Faurot Field, boasting a stellar home record. Across the field, Jon Sumrall is in his first year in Gainesville and has made an instant impact, taking the Gators to a 4-0 start with a high-powered attack.

For Mizzou, keeping up the pressure will fall on the shoulders of quarterback Austin Simmons. The young gunslinger has been incredibly sharp, throwing 11 touchdowns and zero interceptions so far this year. He’s got some deadly targets, none more important than the dynamic duo of Cayden Lee and Donovan Olugbode. Together, they’ve combined for over 700 yards and nine touchdowns, making them one of the most dangerous pairs in the country. Up front, the offensive line has been a wall, giving Simmons time while keeping the opposing pass rushers at bay.

On the defensive side, Mizzou has a monster in Daeden Hopkins. After racking up 3.5 sacks in the last game, he leads the nation in pass-rushing grades and is looking to disrupt Florida’s quarterback. The run defense will also need to step up to contain Florida’s Jadan Baugh, who has been running the ball like a man possessed with 11 touchdowns already. Florida’s offense is averaging over 53 points a game, so Mizzou’s defense, led by guys like Robert Woodyard Jr. and Jahlil Florence, will have their hands full. Florence has been absolute lockdown coverage, allowing almost nothing to receivers who dare to catch passes against him.

With the sellout crowd expected to pack Faurot Field for the 23rd straight sellout, the atmosphere will be electric. It’s homecoming, the rankings are on the line, and we are set for a classic SEC battle.
