Scattered rain is on tap tomorrow; Friday will also feature gusty winds.

PITTSBURGH —

There are two shower chances and two Impact Days coming. Wednesday will feature scattered showers with embedded downpours and thunder. A strong cold front swings through western PA on Friday with more showers and a greater impact from gusty winds.

Wednesday’s Impact Day: Scattered rain

Scattered rain will work from north to south Wednesday. Activity will begin as early as 7 a.m. Pittsburgh will catch the bulk of the action by late-morning. Pockets of heavy rain and rumbles of thunder will be mixed in.

Scattered rain with embedded downpours and thunder will work from north to south Wednesday.

Areas south of Allegheny County will likely get the brunt of the heavy rain. We will have to watch for flooding in poor drainage areas. We will be able to lift the Impact Day after 3 p.m. A break from the activity weather will extend into Thursday.

The gusty winds will headline Friday’s Impact Day.

A potent cold front sweeps through the Pittsburgh area, prompting our next Impact Day on Friday. More showers are expected, especially through the early afternoon. Gusty winds will be more problematic with gusts of 35 to 45 mph. You may want to consider tying down your fall and Halloween decorations.

The strongest gusts will be felt through the Laurel Highlands. A Wind Advisory is possible.

The growing season likely ends this weekend

Temperatures plummet behind Friday’s cold front. Many of us will likely stay in the 40s through the day on Saturday. The cold settles in Sunday morning as we wake up in the middle 30s to prompt widespread frost concerns. It is possible the first freeze of the year shows up in the Laurel Highlands and sheltered valleys.
