Teenager Dies in Fall from Carnival Ride at Cabo San Lucas Festival
An 18-year-old woman, Gabriela Rodríguez Tezoco, was riding the ‘El Péndulo’ attraction during the Cabo San Lucas Traditional Fiestas when she was ejected from her seat and fell to the ground while the ride was in motion. Emergency services arrived quickly and took her to a local hospital, but she succumbed to her injuries shortly after. The Los Cabos city council expressed deep sorrow over the tragedy. In response, authorities removed the head of the Municipal Directorate of Civil Protection and Risk Management and installed an interim director to ensure investigators have full access to files and safety records. The Baja California Sur State Attorney General’s Office has launched a formal probe, with forensic experts examining the ride to verify if it met safety standards. Mayor Christian Agúndez ordered the suspension of ‘El Péndulo’ and a safety inspection of all other festival attractions. He also urged the community to support Gabriela’s family, saying, ‘It could have been any one of us.’ Rodríguez Tezoco was a recent high school graduate from 2026.
