Lighter, faster, and ready to lead: Spurs’ Keldon Johnson is buzzing with energy
San Antonio Spurs forward Keldon Johnson brought his signature high energy both on and off the court during the team’s final preseason game, a 126-97 win over Sacramento. After putting up 15 points, five rebounds, and two assists in just 20 minutes, Johnson was his usual loud self in the locker room, cracking jokes and talking with reporters.
The best part? Johnson has been playing at a whole new level of physical peak after shedding at least 15 pounds this summer. Now sitting at 215 pounds, the 6-foot-6 forward says he feels faster and just as strong, but much more agile. He knows a lighter frame makes him a better overall player. To drop the weight, Johnson kept it simple by cooking at home and cutting out snacks, a different approach from his last major weight loss back in 2022 when he hired a personal chef.
Spurs coach Mitch Johnson has noticed the difference, expecting the veteran to be more explosive vertically and stay in better shape for longer games. As the team’s longest-tenured player, Johnson is ready to lead by example, especially with the regular season kicking off. Meanwhile, guard Dylan Harper showed off a much improved outside shot, hitting 57.1% of his threes in the preseason. The young guard enters the season opener against Oklahoma City feeling super confident about his perimeter play. On the business side, the Spurs locked down some key young talent, picking up team options on Stephon Castle, Dylan Harper, and Carter Bryant for the 2027-28 season, while finalizing their opening night roster.
