Tommy Carr Gets the Start: Michigan QB Switch for Indiana Game
Tommy Carr is stepping up to start for Michigan against Indiana. The grandson of legendary coach Lloyd Carr will take the reins on Saturday, fresh off his impressive showing in the second half of the Wolverines’ 21-18 victory over Penn State. Carr came in for struggling starter Bryce Underwood, who threw two interceptions and managed just 43 yards passing before halftime. Carr, though, only threw seven times but completed five for 47 yards, and he added a game-winning 12-yard touchdown run. This true freshman from Saline, Michigan, brother of Notre Dame’s CJ Carr, was a three-star recruit ranked as the No. 37 quarterback in his class. If he shines against Indiana, coach Kyle Whittingham might keep him in the driver’s seat for the Rutgers game. Underwood, a former five-star prospect with a big NIL deal, has faced scrutiny for his stats: 924 yards, five touchdowns, and six interceptions this season. Last year, as a freshman starter, he threw for 2,428 yards and 11 scores. This season marks his second system change under new coach Whittingham, who brought in OC Jason Beck from Utah.
