Denzel Washington invested USD 1.1 million in the beautiful Colonial Revival mansion that he bought in Los Angeles back in 1988. The stunning residence, which has a rich Hollywood history even before the famed actor bought it out, was resold by Washington and his wife, Pauletta, in 2000 for USD 1.9 million.

In 1988, Denzel Washington bought the stunning LA property

According to reports shared online by the Los Angeles Times, the property that Washington bought in 1988 was originally built and designed in 1940 by Paul Revere Williams, one of the biggest and pioneering African American architects who shaped mid-century Southern California luxury and designed homes for clients like Frank Sinatra, Lucille Ball, and Cary Grant.

About the interior of Denzel Washington’s former LA home

The iconic property, which spans two stories, covered 6,300 square feet on an expansive double lot spanning more than half an acre. The house was preserved to keep its 1940s charm alive, with the original moldings, built-in cabinetry, picture windows, and dual fireplaces in the living and family rooms, all still in their original places. The outer grounds across the entire property feature landscaped gardens, a swimming pool with a cabana, a koi pond, and a separate detached guest house.

The 1940s colonial Los Angeles home’s celebrity history

The 1940s home already had a rich Hollywood history before Washington. The first famed star who stayed in the LA home was Leon Errol. He was a popular and well-known comedian and actor for whom the house was originally built in 1940. Errol was best known for his work in ‘The Girl from Mexico,’ ‘Joe Palooka, Champ,’ ‘One Heavenly Night,’ and ‘The Invisible Man’s Revenge,’ among others.Next up, the house went under the ownership of William Holden and Brenda Marshall. The Oscar-winning actor and his actress wife lived in the home from 1947 to 1959. During their tenure in the house, they notably hosted the wedding reception for Ronald and Nancy Reagan there in 1952.

According to Mansion Global, in 2000, Washington sold the property to television writer-producer Brenda Hampton, who stayed in the house, renovated it, and later sold it herself in 2019. Originally, the sale value back in 2000 for the LA residence was USD 1.9 million; however, Brenda sold the space for USD 4.445 million back in 2019. Currently, no records of the current owner have been made publicly available.
