Panthers running back Chubba Hubbard threw a shoulder into Smith’s helmet on a chip block. Smith fell to the ground and stayed down for a few minutes before walking off the field.
After getting evaluated in the medical tent, Smith went inside to the locker room with trainers. He did not bring his helmet with him.
With Smith out for the remainder of the game, the Eagles are down to three edge rushers: Jonathan Greenard, Arnold Ebiketie and Keyshawn James-Newby.
The Eagles elevated James-Newby from the practice squad on Saturday to play against the Panthers.
James-Newby, a seventh-round pick, will be the Eagles’ No. 3 edge rusher during the final three quarters. The Eagles entered the game without starting edge rusher Jalyx Hunt and top backup A.J. Epenesa.

Greenard is coming off an ankle injury, too.
