The Chicago Bears have let go of defensive end Marcus Davenport just after he made his first appearance of the 2026 season. Davenport was pulled up from the practice squad for Sunday’s game against the New York Jets, where he logged one tackle and played 12 snaps in their 23-12 win. It was a short-lived moment, as the team decided to part ways with him shortly after. Davenport, who was a first-round pick back in 2018 with the New Orleans Saints, joined the Bears in August to bolster the defensive line. He was looking to reconnect with his former defensive coordinator Dennis Allen, and there was hope he’d be a solid rotation piece. But injuries have haunted him lately, and he’s only managed 24 tackles and 3.5 sacks in 15 games since 2023. He didn’t even make the final roster cut initially and was stashed on the practice squad. This move might signal that Shemar Turner is close to returning. Turner, a second-round pick from 2025, tore his ACL last October and has been rehabbing. He’s been on the physically unable to perform list but could be activated soon after returning to practice.
