Community Outrage as Convicted Rapist Andrew Luster Released in Glendora
Glendora, Calif. – There’s a lot of anger in Glendora after Andrew Luster, the Max Factor cosmetics heir who was convicted of serial rape, was released from prison early and is now living in the city. California’s Megan’s Law website confirmed the 62-year-old Luster’s residence. Assemblywoman Blanca E. Rubio called the release ‘disgusting and unacceptable’ and said she’s working with local officials and law enforcement to stay informed and protect residents. Luster was sentenced to 124 years in prison in 2003 for 86 felony counts involving drugging women with GHB and committing rape while they were unconscious. He served about 20 years. Glendora Mayor David Fredendall said the release was sped up by Proposition 57, but noted that then-Gov. Jerry Brown had promised sex offenders wouldn’t be eligible. The police department will work with parole authorities to follow all laws and keep people safe. Rubio co-authored a bill in 2024 that fixed a loophole making rape of unconscious victims a violent felony, and she plans to push for more accountability.
