Tragic School Bus Crash: One Dead, Multiple Injured in Johnson County

A devastating crash involving an Abingdon High School bus occurred Friday night in Johnson County. A Subaru traveling south on Route 91 crossed the center line and collided head-on with the bus. Both vehicles ended up in a ditch. The Subaru’s driver, 35-year-old Douglas McMillian, was pronounced dead at the scene. The bus had 28 students onboard; three students and the bus driver were taken to hospitals with minor injuries. The incident happened around 9:35 p.m. in the 7000 block of Highway 91, following the Abingdon vs. Johnson County football game. Washington County Public Schools confirmed it was a head-on collision. Patients were transported to Johnson City Medical Center and Johnston Memorial Hospital, where incident command was activated. A secondary crash also occurred nearby, causing minor injuries. Johnson County Schools expressed support for the Abingdon community. State Route 91 was closed due to the multi-vehicle crash.
