Bartosz Sztybor ‘Cyberpunk Edgerunners 2’ Interview – USFTB
Night City keeps eating people alive, and the team behind ‘Cyberpunk: Edgerunners 2’ is ready to show a whole new batch of souls trying to survive its neon streets. Showrunner Bartosz Sztybor sat down with us to talk about how the sequel came together, why David and Lucy’s story is truly over, and how they plan to expand the universe without cheapening it.
Sztybor admits he actually had ideas for more ‘Edgerunners’ stories while writing the first season, even though CD Projekt Red publicly insisted it was a one-off standalone deal. Behind the scenes, the team was quietly cooking up the next chapter. The main goal was never to bring David back for a quick cash grab, but to find fresh, genuinely cool stories that justify their existence in such a massive world.
The new season drops on October 20 with ten fresh episodes. Studio TRIGGER is back, but they handed the director’s chair to Kai Ikarashi, bringing a totally new visual vibe while keeping that signature explosive energy. Sztybor explains that they didn’t want to just repeat the first season; they wanted a distinct, fresh creative vision.
When it comes to the timeline, Sztybor is keeping the exact placement close to the chest. He says fans will need to watch closely, look for the clues, and piece it together themselves. But he promises the timeline placement is key, directly playing with elements fans already know from the first show and the game.
What about cameos? Sztybor says they love the idea of a shared universe, but only if the characters actually mean something to the new plot. You won’t see David or the game’s V popping up because their stories already reached a natural end. However, characters like Rebecca and Sal Bigelow get more room to breathe because their arcs weren’t fully finished in their first appearances. As for Johnny Silverhand, Sztybor thinks his game arc was so complete that forcing him into an anime just wouldn’t feel right.
Before hitting play, Sztybor’s main warning to fans is simple: do not get too attached to anyone. He hopes viewers refresh the first season and watch the new one as a direct conversation with the old one. As for the future of the franchise, he says it will always be about the edgerunners of Night City, maybe stretching to the outer edges of the city, but the heart of the story will always be there.
