George MacIntyre replaced Faizon Brandon at quarterback for Tennessee football against Auburn.
Brandon started for the fifth straight game, but the freshman was 3-for-8 passing for no yards against the Tigers at Neyland Stadium. He threw an interception on his final pass before being replaced by MacIntyre with 3:42 before halftime with the Vols trailing 7-3. Brandon’s interception at the UT 19-yard line led to Auburn’s first touchdown.
MacIntyre was 6-for-10 passing with one touchdown in three games entering Saturday. He played against Texas briefly after Brandon left with an injury. He scrambled for 1 yard before Tennessee punted on the following play. He was 1-for-3 passing for six yards on his lone full drive.
The 6-foot-6, 208-pound quarterback battled Brandon for the starting job in the fall, but the five-star freshman ultimately won out.
MacIntyre was 7-for-9 passing for 69 yards in two games as a freshman in 2025 as the third-string quarterback behind Joey Aguilar and Jake Merklinger.
MacIntyre enrolled early as a four-star prospect in the 2025 class out of Brentwood Academy. MacIntyre was the No. 3 in-state prospect, the No. 15 quarterback and the No. 193 overall recruit in his class, according to the Rivals Industry Ranking.
