Penguins Land Ryan Johnson in Defensive Shake-Up Trade
The Pittsburgh Penguins just snagged defenseman Ryan Johnson from the Buffalo Sabres, swapping him for Caleb Jones and Daniel Laatsch. Johnson’s deal runs through 2027-28 with a modest $875K annual hit. At 25, he’s got a mix of NHL and AHL experience, including 47 games with Buffalo where he racked up seven assists, mostly in his rookie year. He’s been grinding in Rochester too, with over 150 AHL games under his belt. Before going pro, Johnson shone at the University of Minnesota and even won gold with Team USA at the World Juniors. Drafted 31st overall by Buffalo back in 2019, he’s looking to make his mark in Pittsburgh.
