James Gunn is not one to sit idle. While waiting for the assembly cut of ‘Superman: Man of Tomorrow’ to come together, he has already started writing his next big project. He let fans know on Threads that he is ‘already in it,’ joking that he had to find something to do while waiting for the edit.
On the Superman front, Gunn confirmed that the assembly cut of the film is complete. Filming for the movie wrapped up back in August, and the sequel is set to hit theaters on July 9, 2027. The plot sees Superman, played by David Corenswet, forced to partner up with his foe Lex Luthor, played by Nicholas Hoult, to face off against the super-brainy villain Brainiac, played by Lars Eidinger.
The cast lineup is stacked. Rachel Brosnahan returns as Lois Lane, with Skyler Gisondo, Sara Sampaio, Isabela Merced, Nathan Fillion, and Edi Gathegi all back in their roles. Milly Alcock is reprising her role as Supergirl, and Aaron Pierre is joining the DC universe as John Stewart.
Beyond the writing and directing, Gunn runs DC Studios alongside Peter Safran. Gunn recently gushed about Safran, calling him the best and explaining that Peter handles all the things Gunn doesn’t do well, like keeping the whole ship steady and connecting the movie side with the comics. They both share a deep love for these characters and take the massive responsibility of steering their futures very seriously.
