Mike Tomlin coached the Pittsburgh Steelers for nineteen years and never had a losing season, but his latest passion project is a world away from the football field. The former head coach recently shared a nearly twenty-minute YouTube video showing off a massive city he has built inside Minecraft over the last twelve years.
Tomlin got hooked on the game after his kids played it, and while they grew up and lost interest, his own hobby only grew. He calls the building process ‘mindless entertainment’ and ‘therapeutic,’ a way to escape the daily grind. ‘I’m not a big TV watcher,’ he says. ‘It allowed me to detach from the realities and the pressures of life.’
His virtual city is packed with detailed structures, including a boutique hotel with an executive spa, high-rise apartments with aquariums on each floor, and sports stadiums. One of his favorite builds is a rooftop penthouse labeled ‘Trump Tower,’ which he built back in 2015 long before the political comeback seemed likely. He even spawns villagers inside to watch how they move through the spaces. Now that he has retired from coaching and joined NBC Sports, fans are wondering what he will build next in his pixelated world.
