Mustapha dodges flag again, but fines are piling up
Malik Mustapha, the 49ers safety, has managed to avoid a penalty for an illegal hit on a defenseless player for the second straight game. Last week, he got fined $6,998 for a similar hit on a Seahawks receiver. Now, during Monday night’s game against the Commanders, he made another helmet-to-helmet hit on Stefon Diggs that wasn’t flagged, but it’s expected to lead to another fine. If he gets fined again, he’s one hit away from a suspension under the new NFL rules. With this being the second violation early in the game, another one would mean a third offense.
