College football is supposed to be about passion and teamwork, but this season has brought unimaginable tragedy. Two players have lost their lives in incidents tied to their games, leaving families and communities in deep sorrow.
First, MicahJo Barnett, a running back for William Jewell College, died after suffering a medical emergency during his team’s season opener. Barnett had just scored a touchdown against Fort Lewis when he began experiencing seizure-like symptoms. The game was suspended, and he was rushed to the hospital, but he passed away. His family released a statement asking for privacy and gratitude for support. Barnett was a standout player, leading his team in rushing last season and helping his high school win a state title.
Then, Tyler Ulrich, a safety for Southern Nazarene University, died five days after a traumatic injury during a game against Ouachita Baptist University.
