Von Miller Owning His Slow Start: ‘I Have to Make an Impact’ for Cowboys
After five games of the 2026 season, Von Miller hasn’t lived up to the expectations the Dallas Cowboys had when they signed him. He’s been a good teammate, but on the field, he’s yet to record a sack and has only managed six pressures, according to Pro Football Focus. Miller isn’t making excuses; on his ‘Free Range w/ Von Miller’ podcast, he pointed the finger at himself. ‘It’s time for me to get rolling,’ he said. ‘If I get two plays, I need to find a way to make an impact on those two plays. If I get 10, I definitely should be able to have an impact on 10 plays.’ The Cowboys’ pass-rush as a whole is struggling—they have 76 pressures but only five sacks, which is among the worst in the league. Miller’s playing time has been limited, just 72 snaps or 22% of defensive plays, and it dropped to 13.9% in their loss to the Buccaneers. Now, with rookie Malachi Lawrence showing promise and getting more attention after his first sack, there’s talk that Miller’s role might shrink. Head coach Brian Schottenheimer praised Lawrence, saying he’s showing the ability to rush the passer and will get more opportunities. It’s unclear if that means less time for Miller, but the Cowboys are looking to shake things up before their game against the Packers at Lambeau Field.
