Trotter and Thomas Fined After Fight Leads to Ejections in Eagles-Jaguars Game
During the Week 5 clash between the Philadelphia Eagles and Jacksonville Jaguars, a heated moment on the opening kickoff spiraled into a full-blown altercation between Eagles linebacker Jeremiah Trotter Jr. and Jaguars defensive end Bryan Thomas Jr. The fight continued after the play, leading to both players being ejected from the game.
The NFL has since stepped in with fines: Trotter was penalized $6,428, while Thomas received a $4,972 penalty, as confirmed by Tom Pelissero of The Ringer.
Referee Ron Torbert explained the ejections post-game, noting, ‘They were disqualified for continuous non-football actions after the play was over,’ per the Associated Press.
Trotter, a fifth-round draft pick for the Eagles, has been a key depth player this season, recording 19 tackles and one pass defended in five games. Thomas, an undrafted rookie for the Jaguars, has contributed with one tackle and one quarterback hit in four appearances.
Despite the ejections, the Jaguars pulled off a dramatic 19-17 win. Trailing by three points with eight seconds left, Jacksonville returned a kickoff for 53 yards, setting up a game-winning field goal with one second remaining. The victory boosted the Jaguars to a 4-1 record, while the Eagles dropped to 2-3.
