Indiana football dropped one spot and is ranked No. 6 in the Associated Press Top 25 poll following its Week 7 loss to Ohio State The Hoosiers received zero first-place vote and 1,370 total voting points.
IU has been ranked in the AP Top 10 for 20 consecutive weeks, the longest streak in program history. Indiana was previously ranked No. 5 last week and began the season ranked No. 6. This is the first week that the Hoosiers did not receive at least one first-place vote.
Indiana’s 22-game winning streak was snapped against now-No. 3 Ohio State in a 19-15 home loss on Saturday. With the defeat, IU fell to 6-1 overall and 3-1 in Big Ten play.
Indiana jumped ahead with a 7-3 lead in the first quarter, but a 2-yard receiving touchdown from Ohio State’s Bo Jackson gave the Buckeyes a 10-7 advantage that they wouldn’t relinquish. IU’s offense drove deep into Ohio State territory on its final drive, but Josh Hoover’s pass to Nick Marsh in the end zone was ruled incomplete after Marsh didn’t get his foot down inbounds to complete the touchdown catch.
Indiana’s offense sputtered for much of the afternoon, finishing with 369 total yards, averaging 5.3 yards per play and coughing up two turnovers on fumbles. Indiana quarterback Josh Hoover completed 20-of-40 passes for 296 yards, one touchdown, zero interceptions, and one fumble lost on a strip-sack. IU’s rushing attack generated 73 rushing yards on 29 carries (2.5 yards per rush) and one touchdown.
Indiana’s special teams also struggled as kicker Nico Radicic missed two field goals, one from 32 yards in the second quarter and one from 55 yards in the third quarter. IU punter Billy Gowers punted four times for 169 yards and averaged 42.3 yards per attempt.
Defensively, the Hoosiers held the Buckeyes to 313 total yards of offense and 4.6 yards per play. IU safety Amare Ferrell tallied two interceptions, while Indiana’s pass rush came away with four sacks, six tackles for loss, five pass breakups, two quarterback hurries and one forced fumble. Ohio State quarterback Julian Sayin left the game in the second half due to injury after taking a big hit, with true freshman Luke Fahey finishing the game for the Buckeyes.
Up next, Indiana travels to play at Michigan in Ann Arbor on Saturday. Kickoff is set for Noon ET and will be broadcast on FOX.
