San Jose State vs UTEP Prediction, Picks & Odds: Can UTEP Miners Pull Off the Big Upset?

College football betting fans, gather round. We’ve got a tasty underdog play on the board for the Saturday night clash between the San Jose State Spartans and the UTEP Miners at the Sun Bowl.

Our top pick is simple: take the UTEP Miners with the +7.5 points spread, sitting at solid odds of -133. It might look crazy on paper since San Jose State is the clear favorite, but the numbers tell a completely different story when you look at the spreads.

Let’s look at the facts. San Jose State has been absolutely brutal when playing away from home against heavy spreads. They haven’t covered a -7.5 line on the road in nine straight games, and honestly, they’ve failed to cover in 19 of their last 20 overall games. That is a massive red flag. On the flip side, UTEP knows how to play tough at home. They’ve covered the +7.5 spread in six of their last ten games at the Sun Bowl, and they covered it in three of their last five. The home-field advantage is real, and the Miners will be fired up under the lights.

Now, let’s talk about how the teams are playing right now. San Jose State comes in with a couple of nice road wins, but they just got beaten in overtime by Wyoming at home. UTEP, on the other hand, has hit a rough patch, losing four straight games, including a pretty painful 30-13 home loss to Nevada. But here is the thing: games like this are where underdogs dig deep. We expect a gritty, low-scoring battle where UTEP keeps it close enough to cash your ticket.

If you want to have some fun with a speculative bet, look at a correct score of 27-23 in favor of the Spartans. It’s a tight finish, but we see the Miners keeping it within a touchdown.

The current moneyline has San Jose State at -278, showing the books expect them to win, but the value is screaming on the UTEP side at +220. The total points are sitting at 45.5, so expect a defensive battle if UTEP manages to slow down the Spartans’ offense. Make sure you check your local sportsbook, grab your bonus bets, and get ready for a great night of football.
