‘The Boys’ Officially Recasts Homelander for New Release – USFTB
Prime Video has released dozens of successful shows in the last 5–10 years, but few have reached the same level of fame as The Boys, which first arrived in 2019. Prime Video puts out a new season of The Boys almost every year, which is as good of a turnaround timeline as you can ask for in the modern streaming era, when shows often go on a years-long hiatus between seasons. When the first season of The Boys arrived on streaming less than a year before the COVID-19 pandemic, there was no way to predict it would go on to become as popular as it did over the next seven years. When the fifth and final season of The Boys hit streaming earlier this year, millions of fans were tuning in every week to see how the story of Butcher and Homelander was going to come to a head.
Prime Video has already released one spin-off of The Boys, Gen V, but the show was canceled after only one season — it’s also unclear if any of the characters from Gen V will ever show up in-universe again. Prime Video does have bigger plans for The Boys in the future, though, including the next spin-off, Vought Rising, starring Jensen Ackles as Soldier Boy and Aya Cash as Clara Vought, years before her rise as Stormfront. Another project set in the world of The Boys was released earlier this year, though, and you may not have even realized it. We’re talking, of course, about Trigger Warning, the VR game that’s now available on platforms like Meta Quest and even PlayStation VR.
Say Goodbye to Antony Starr as Homelander in ‘The Boys’
Several original stars from the first five seasons of The Boys appear in the new project, Trigger Warning, including Jensen Ackles as Soldier Boy and Laz Alonso as Mother’s Milk. However, Antony Starr was recast as Homelander for the new release, with Jake Green voicing the iconic villainous supe in the game. Green is a widely known voice actor who has done work for other recent projects including Marvel’s Wolverine, Young Jedi Adventures, and even Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man. The Boys: Trigger Warning is an original story set within the world of The Boys that fits seamlessly into the existing canon.
