Porzingis Out Indefinitely, But Stays Close to Warriors
Kristaps Porzingis is out indefinitely because of a private health issue, but the Golden State Warriors say he’ll still be around the team. He shared on social media that he’s working with doctors and feeling better, just needs to stay patient. Porzingis called the general manager before training camp to say he wouldn’t be reporting, and he missed the first five preseason games. While the team was in Las Vegas, he returned to the Warriors’ facility in San Francisco to meet with the GM and the lead medical decision-maker. The Warriors are keeping the details private, but he’s expected to be in the facility as they wrap up preseason and prepare for the regular-season opener. He’s not cleared to practice yet, and they’ll update his status when they can. This isn’t the first time Porzingis has dealt with health problems; he had an upper respiratory virus two seasons ago and was limited to 34 games last year. The Warriors traded for him and re-signed him to a two-year, $40 million deal. In his absence, Coach Steve Kerr is leaning toward a smaller lineup with Stephen Curry, Brandin Podziemski, Gui Santos, Yaxel Lendeborg, and Draymond Green.
