Laughing Man Coffee: Brewing Hope from Ethiopia to Your Cup
In 2009, actor Hugh Jackman traveled to Ethiopia with World Vision and met a young coffee farmer named Dukale. Dukale worked tirelessly on his farm, facing challenges like limited access to markets and fair prices, but he stayed determined to support his family. Jackman was deeply moved by this encounter, seeing a reflection of his own desire to work hard and provide for loved ones. Instead of just donating, he wondered if a business could help connect farmers with customers in a meaningful way. Two years later, in 2011, he launched Laughing Man Coffee with entrepreneur David Steingard. The idea was simple: sell great coffee and use the profits to support farming communities. The Laughing Man Foundation grew from this, focusing on healthcare, safe housing, scholarships, and business training in places like Ethiopia, Peru, and Colombia. Jackman learned that farmers need more than just good coffee—they need access to education, markets, and basic resources to break free from poverty. Today, the foundation continues to partner with organizations to expand its reach, proving that a single cup of coffee can spark real change.
