Fatal Rejection: Minnesota Man Convicted of Murdering Woman Who Said She Wasn’t Ready for Relationship
Jose Luis Lopez Xique, a 27-year-old man, was found guilty of murdering Kayli Arseth by shooting her in the head. The crime happened after Arseth told him she wasn’t ready for a relationship. They had met online, and while Lopez Xique wanted romance, Arseth only saw him as a friend. On June 16, 2025, she messaged him saying she was overwhelmed and couldn’t date anyone. Lopez Xique showed up at her apartment anyway and shot her. When family couldn’t reach her, they called police, who found her body. The jury convicted him of first-degree murder, meaning he’ll get life without parole. Prosecutor Mary Moriarty called it a ‘rejection killing’ and noted Arseth loved music and worked with special needs kids.
